For a couple of days we worked with an artist named Mark Gibbs who is a contemporary animal sculpture, whose work is based on world war one and conflict. What I liked about his work is how he uses different scrap materials, he makes good use of resources. I also like that the skeleton of the horse and man is still visible, so we can see how it is made. The vibe of depression and dark we get from his work captures the meaning and context of his work, however the way the man is sat on his horse also represents the bravery and nobleness of the man fighting in the war.

We got into groups of three or two and created our own sculptures that has the meaning of conflict. Here we had the idea of creating a rice farmer, the conflict is that modern day electronics take over the traditional jobs of the rice farmers hence why we have chosen to make the sculpture in batteries and wire.

We also made a caribou to accompany the man, this is also a conflict as this is a danger to the rice farmer. The animal is majority made out of wrapped around wire and screws as its feet to hold it up.

I enjoyed doing this workshop as I learnt to work in a different way then I usually do. It loosened up the way I worked and looked at creating things.
